Statue of Aphrodite

Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. In Graeco-Roman Egypt, her role as a feminine figure associated with appearance garnered her a significant following. Beauty had, in fact, been held sacred for ages in Egypt long before foreign powers arrived, mainly being associated with female royalty. Traditionally, kohl and other forms of makeup were tools of the ruling class attached to divinity, making Aphrodite a quickly-accepted symbol among these groups at the same time as beauty became a more broadly-distributed concern among the public. In fact, there have been many examples of an 'Egyptianized' Aphrodite wearing traditional Nile-area garb, signifying her appropriation.

The following artifacts together compose a statue with a base and, potentially, attached marble, acting as a household god of building 409.
