Ritual Objects

Objects were assigned special spiritual value in Roman Egypt. A great deal of superstition regarding the evil eye and varying forms of curses existed at the time, manifesting itself in the form of artifacts that could be used for good or ill.

Where household gods were concerned, however, physical objects became implements of worship. Besides the statue of the deity, incense and other tools were commonly used to supplement prayer. This section of the Room H collection covers these kinds of objects, and will posit their use.
